My mom Sharon was such an amazing soul, with a smile described as contagious by so many people. In the photo she is holding her two grandsons (my two boys) who meant the world to her. Sharon was instantly liked by all who met her. Social and outgoing, singing and dancing, she lived to serve others; always wanting to help and give selflessly. She housed several people in tough situations in her basement throughout her life, gave cars, money and love to those in need. She worked as a nurse with veterans for much of her 25 year career as a Registered Nurse. The last few years of her life she worked with individuals in recovery at a treatment center, where she influenced and encouraged many people. Sadly, not many people knew that behind her beautiful smile, Sharon hid over 20 years of severe depression, which was not an easy battle to fight. She was treatment resistant, which means there was not a medication that was effective in treating her disease, making some years of her life almost unbearable. In February 2022 we lost Sharon to suicide. Sharon's House of Hope Foundation was created in January 2023 to allow the work of her giving soul to carry on and serve those with housing insecurities. Mental health affects many people facing housing insecurities. Providing a safe secure place for those people to lay their head and feel a sense of belonging is crucial in beginning the path to healing. Mental well being and suicide prevention are always taken very seriously at Sharon's House of Hope. We strive to increase suicide awareness, prevention and acceptance of treatment for the people we serve in our houses, as well as in the community.
